Are You Driving a Truck with a Bicycle License?

Many Lagos drivers unknowingly break the law by using a Class B license for commercial activities or driving with an expired license. This post explains how these simple mistakes lead to heavy penalties, why license renewal is often a nightmare, and how Rabbar helps you handle the entire process smoothly before the police catch you for it.

Open your wallet. Take out your Driver's License. Look at the top right corner.

What letter do you see?

Most of you will see Class B.

This is the standard license for a private motor vehicle. It covers your Toyota Corolla or your Ford Explorer, or your Lexus. It allows you to drive a car for personal use.

But here is where Lagos drivers get into trouble.

The Commercial Trap

Many people in this city use their personal cars for business. You might be doing ride-hailing on the weekends. You might be using a Sienna to move goods for your small business.

The moment you use your vehicle for commercial purposes, the rules change. The Federal Road Safety Corps expects your license to match your activity.

If you are driving a bus or a van that carries passengers or goods for money, you might need a Class C license. If you are caught driving a commercial vehicle with a Class B license, the penalty is steep. It is treated the same as driving without a license at all.

The Expiry Date Problem

The other trap is the date.

Nigerian Driver's Licenses expire every three or five years, depending on what you paid for. It is not like the Proof of Ownership, which lasts forever.

We often forget this date. We treat the license like an ID card rather than a permit. But the police check the date first. If it expired last week, you are no longer a licensed driver. You are a civilian operating heavy machinery illegally.

The Capture Queue Nightmare

Renewing a license is painful because of the "Capture." You have to go to the FRSC office. You have to do the eye test. You have to verify your biometrics.

The queues are long. The systems are often offline.

Rabbar removes the friction. While we cannot legally do the biometrics for you, we can handle the entire pre-processing.

We generate the payment ID. We schedule the capture date. We ensure your files are correct so that when you arrive at the FRSC office, you simply walk in for the capture and walk out.

Do not wait until you are stopped at a checkpoint to check your class and expiry date. Check it now.
